Says Jane Goodall and she should know.
This week’s Something New focuses on HOPE ahead of the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
It’s the perfect time to release her new book: The Book of Hope – A book about encouragement – and HOPE. A ‘fireside chat’ with this influential 87 year old centred on the things she has cared about all her life: nature, and how we can try and reclaim it. She retains a sense of optimism. ‘I didn’t agree with the young people who told me there was nothing they could do about it. I told them we have a window of time when, if people of all ages get together, we can at least start healing some of the hurt we have inflicted.’ Find Jane’s book and site featured on ours.
More HOPE as The Lancet Planetary Health released results from a large European cohort study this week too, showing a win/win from sustainable dietary shifts and environmental health: Diets which are heavy on meat and dairy contribute more to greenhouse gas emissions and land use. They were shown to be associated with an increased risk of all-cause, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer death. Remarkably, diets that are worst for the planet also increase the risk of developing 10-14 of 20 specific cancers investigated. Overall, by choosing a climate-friendly diet such as the Eat-Lancet planetary health diet, up to 19-63% of all deaths and up to 10-40% of cancer could be prevented whilst at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and land use by 62%.
It’s clear that there is an urgent need to change the way we eat. There are alternatives readily available to meat and dairy, this study shows they contribute to ill health and are destroying our planet.
Thank you Shireen and all at Plant-Based Health Professionals UK for sharing the article.
‘Nothing – and I mean nothing – is more powerful than HOPE. In her latest book, Turner documents the healing power of HOPE and provides solid scientific evidence of the power of HOPE and how it is saving lives. (Dr Christiane Northrup)
Dr Turner identifies 10 common factors from interviews with 100’s of patients who had beaten their odds:
Exercise, Spiritual Connection, Empowering Yourself, Increasing Positive Emotions, Following Your Intuition, Releasing Suppressed Emotions, Changing Your Diet, Herbs and Supplements, Having Strong Reasons for Living, Increasing Support are the factors ALL the patients had in common.
That mind, body, soul connection in all it’s glory.
A wonderful testimonial of HOPE comes from Dr Saray Stancic, who joined our site this week.
Dr Stancic was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1995, by 2003 she walked with a cane and was on numerous medications, all with horrible side effects. She undertook a radically different approach to managing her illness. Within a relatively short time period, she was off all MS medications, walking normally, resumed dancing, and in 2010 she ran a marathon. HOPE for us all…
