Gut health and our microbiome – why food matters

Rich Roll and gastroenterologist Dr Alan Desmond talk about our gut health and microbiome in this information packed podcast – and why food matters to them both.

With the American Cancer Society stating that one in 15/20 people are developing colorectal cancer and that one in 10 Americans have type 2 diabetes – this matters, a lot.

Instagram feed on activated charcoal

With 2865 Instagram ‘likes’ as I type, this comment has clearly resonated with many.

Activated charcoal is a traditional detox method, clinging to toxins and helping remove them from our bodies.

As you can see ‘I used activated charcoal for a full detox after chemotherapy.’

That was several years ago now – worked for me.

Dr Josh Axe is featured on our site, here is his article, as quoted in my Instagram reply.

USDA report

We can’t get our heads around this one:

healthy diet with 91% of it’s calories coming from ultra-processed foods.

Really?  Maybe the true use of this study was to show once and for all that calorie counting is not the way to measure a healthy food intake?

Homemade gazpacho in glass bottles and a bowl of fresh peaches

More gazpacho made this week, well it is the season in Europe for fresh courgettes, tomatoes, basil, red peppers and cucumbers.

Rude not to (as they say).

You can find the recipe we used on last week’s blog.

Fresh organic peaches are a gift from a neighbour’s garden.

Food miles’ are pretty low with this summer lunch combo!

Dr Frank Lipman tweet

We’re massive fans of an Epsom Salt bath before bedtime.  An easy way to get a massive hit of magnesium into our bodies.

Sleep like a baby’ is the quote that’s been used more than once.

Simply run a warm bath and add a couple of scoops of salts and spend at least 20 mins soaking.

This ‘health business’ isn’t too much of a hardship, is it?  And just look at the benefits…

Jane Goodall

Ok, so we’re going to upset some people here, but absolutely no apologies for sharing the truth.

Factory farming accounts for almost all of animal production in the UK and US, along with many other countries and whilst we may not want to associate that ‘delicious’ steak, or glass of fresh milk, or Nandos ‘deliciousness’ with suffering, it’s inextricable in reality.

Sorry, it just is.  We have a choice – they don’t.  You can read more of Dame Jane’s work on our site.

Palamos sea view, Costa Brava, Spain
Talk about a seaview: 180 degrees to be precise. Heaven on earth – Palamos, Costa Brava, Spain

What a view.  What a gift: 3 nights in an apartment overlooking the Mediterranean sea.  Good for the soul – and the rest of our bodies.

Black seed oil pods

Pretty dried flowers?

Or something more?

Tweet from Nutrition Facts

These beauties are black cumin seed pods.  They’re rather good for us too:

Goals!

Freshly washed organic peaches

Perfectly imperfect.  A close up of the organic peaches gifted to us.  And yes, they tasted every bit as good as they look.
