William Shatner

Captain Kirk is 92 this week – boy has he taken this famous Star Trek line seriously…

‘Don’t die. That’s it; that’s the secret, simply keep living and try not to slow down.’  he says.  And that is exactly how William Shatner lives his life: remaining active – physically, professionally, and socially.

‘Say yes to the opportunities life is offering. Say yes to life, yes to dinner, yes to going out and yes to something new. Because time is too short to lose one opportunity to sacrifice another.’

Happy Birthday Captain – full article can be found here.

Nuggets, chips and tomato sauce

‘The UK has both the highest rates of ultra-processed-food consumption in children and the highest rates of obesity in Europe. We need to start prioritising our children’s diet above the short-term interest of giant food companies and their Westminster lobbyists. If we don’t act soon, it will be impossible.’  Tim Spector, writing in The Times last week.

Scary stats – a dire warning.

Syringe and bottle

Talking of obesity, is the new ‘Skinny Jab’, which trials show can enable us to lose 15% of our bodyweight over 2 years, an answer?

And is this what Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk have been using in Hollywood?  The glossies think so.  And more importantly – is it safe?

Dr Giles Yeo, who joined our site last month, asks some big questions in this BBC Science article.

The price of the jab is yet to be confirmed – the real price may take a lot longer to be revealed.

Denise Stevenson and Martin Pittaway on stage

10,500 euros were handed to our local cancer hospital following this fundraiser a couple of weeks ago.

Mixed emotions for me as I presented the show.

They say the final part of healing is using what you’ve learned to help others.  Our cards were at each of the 325 place settings.

On it!

The Female Factor book cover

Dr Hazel has a beautiful new website and a bestselling book, which is a bargain this month:

For less than a pound/dollar you can learn: ‘How nutrition plays a role across our menstrual cycle; how our fitness is shaped by our physical make-up; how our hormones affect our mental health across our lifespan; and how sleep can save your sanity, no matter the day of the month – plus 50 new, nourishing recipes.’

Bargain.

Rice, broccoli, sweetcorn, mushrooms and pomegranate seeds

This seems to be a pattern at ours recently: Fish something that you can’t remember what it is because you haven’t labelled it out of the freezer and add a mix of fresh veg to it…. I think this started off life as a mushroom risotto.  It ended up as a tasty lunch with fresh broccoli, fresh sweetcorn and defrosted pomegranate seeds all added.

Works for me!

Ain’t that the truth.  We seem to be awash with it…  Specific resources are featured on our healthy mind pages.

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
