A punishment meted out by parents? A compliment about our state of mind? Or a comment about our connection to this beautiful planet we call home?
I’ve always loved walking along the beach, dangling my feet in water, laying on the summertime grass with my nose in a book, but could there be a cellular reaction going on alongside my pure enjoyment of connecting with nature? According to this film, absolutely – and the peer-reviewed science is there to prove it. Currently free-to-view too…
This is a ‘kindness scientist’ – Dr David R Hamilton. Here he explains why it feels really, really, really, really good to be kind: ‘It’s more than a hashtag and almost always the right thing to do’. Welcome to our site Mr H – the more kindness the better for us please!
A study that ‘highlights the potential impact of good diet and gut health on chances of survival in patients undergoing immunotherapy‘ co-authored by Professor Tim Spector was released this week by Kings College London. More about the crucial part our gut plays in our overall health can be found on our site, including Professor Tim’s work.
This controversial film from the makers of Cowspiracy is released this week (18 March, 19 March in NZ). Trigger warning for the above trailer, and the film, prepare to be shocked.
This is strangely addictive… I’ve got the theme tune in my head (reminds me of a children’s tv show one that you simply can’t get out once it’s in!) and I’ve learned so much ‘stuff’. Put together by a group of PCRM Food for Life Instructors who had an idea: They all love plant-based cooking and nutrition, and love serving. So they began meeting once a month online and collaborating for a cooking and nutrition demonstration to freely share globally. Thus was born the idea of a kitchen-to-kitchen cooking show.
There are hours of videos on YouTube to be ‘invested’ in.
One of the most common things we’re asked is ‘Where do I start?’ – here’s a pretty good place…
This lady’s pretty happy right now, she just been gifted $2.5M to carry out a two-year study on “Efficacy of Diet on Quality of Life in multiple sclerosis”. It will be one of the largest and longest-ever dietary-intervention studies on people with MS.
Dr Terry Wahls knows only too well the effect that diet can have on the disease. The published research paper says it all.
One question: Where’s the whole food plant based dietary option?
Mmm – misleading, attention grabbing headline here. This popped up on my Facebook feed – I questioned it and duly opened it (I suspect the goal).
Prof Sattar doesn’t agree either: The professor of Metabolic Medicine, University of Glasgow, said: “In short this paper should in no way change advice to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
“Many living in the UK fall well short of this, sadly, and more needs to be done to encourage better intake of vegetables.
“In fact, I suspect we may have underestimated the importance of a healthy diet on health and disease in general.’
There is no ‘may’ about it, we have. There’s lots more information about heart disease on our site.
This isn’t going to save our planet, but I thought I’d give planting celery a go. I use a lot of it in morning juices and cooking.
Currently it’s looking promising potted on the kitchen windowsill, we’ll see…
All you do is take the celery base, pop it in water until it sprouts and re-pot.
