Dan Bibby Plant-based nutrition Double-zero

They’re in the semis! Earlier today GB’s men beat the US 26-21 and set up an Olympic rugby sevens semi-final against NZ.  Dan Bibby’s a seasoned part of that team: As a young athlete, he had one thing drilled into him when it came to nutrition: protein, protein, protein.  “You get told from a young age that you should eat chicken breasts at every meal, you’d literally be watching people downing raw eggs.”

Then, four years ago, he decided to cut meat out of his diet. Bibby, 30, is part of a growing number of top-level athletes choosing to move to plant-based diets. Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic has credited eating a plant-based diet for his fast recovery after matches, while Venus Williams has said that going vegan “changed my life”. Sir Lewis Hamilton said the diet improved his energy levels in Formula One races.

The 2018 documentary The Game Changers, in which Djokovic and Hamilton among others spoke of how they believed plant-based diets had enhanced their performance is featured on our site.

Thankful for these garden blooms which just keep on coming.  They’re definitely part of my self-care package, along with nourishing my body with healthy, seasonal, fresh foods, as below…

Organic tomatoes Recipes Double-zero

Local, organic beef tomatoes are great value right now, the basil’s on my windowsill and the wholemeal pasta makes a filling lunch in the sunshine.

Good for the heart and soul.

The Heart: Understanding the vascular system, resilience & repair.

‘Alright, alright, alright’.  Immersed myself in this man’s autobiography this week. He suggests we all need 3 things:

Someone to look up to – his is God

Something to look forward to – his is his family

Someone to chase – his is himself, 10 years on from now

Greenlights is the best-selling book- a great, uplifting read.  Also good for my heart and soul.  Thoroughly recommended.

Here’s ‘one of the best Oscar speeches’ as Matthew is presented with Best Actor in 2014 for The Dallas Buyers Club.  (An Oscar was one of his childhood goals…)
