We Have The Might

31 August 2023|Health, Nutrition, Recipes, Sustainability

Humans may have been given dominion over other species, but by having this ‘might’ does it make it ‘right’ to abuse them?

Calf in a cage

Because we are.  Every day.  Millions of them.  Every single day.  Dominion film is free to watch on YouTube.  You can click here for their website and choose to watch the trailer or film.  I couldn’t manage to see it all the way through, which is why the trailer isn’t directly featured here.  A harrowing, but essential watch to educate us all as to the truth of what really happens with animal agriculture. I got up to ‘rabbits’ on my first attempt.  Deep breaths.

Cartons of milk

Then we waste gallons of their milk: The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) requires a carton of cows milk to be placed on every tray for schools to be reimbursed via the National School Lunch program.

Unbelievably, according to their own findings, 29% are thrown in the bin, unopened.  ($300M of taxpayers money).

Despite a huge percentage of children being lactose intolerant the USDA only reimburse the schools for the cost of the meals if dairy is provided to the children.

A serving of a plant milk is not currently an option.

Trays of cooked figs and mirabelle plums

Still the fruit comes.  We’ve only one fig tree and one mirabelle plum tree, but boy they’ve produced an abundance of fruit this year…

The freezer’s full, we’ve eaten stacks, given away more and are now cooking and stewing the remainder.

Make haste while the sun shines…

Fruits and vegetables

‘Prescriptions for fruit and vegetables boost health’ says this article from The Times newspaper in the UK this week.

Really?  You don’t say.

We shouldn’t be sarcastic, but is anyone really surprised by this?
