LTN’s = Greenwashing?

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods
‘The Department for Transport said it could give no evidence that low-traffic neighbourhoods reduced the number of miles driven’ says an article in the UK’s Times newspaper last week. ‘An official responsible for the schemes, known as LTNs, which ministers present as environmentally friendly, said no studies on the effect on distance travelled had been requested because “LTNs don’t exist to reduce miles driven”. So why was hundreds of millions of pounds’ funding announced for LTNs in 2020?
Greenwashing is the practice of using marketing spin to persuade the public that a product or policy is environmentally friendly when it is not. Time will tell if LTN’s prove to be just that. Full article here.

Another Laura Wright supper this week. Our youngest introduced us to pearl barley when she was back from University a few weeks ago. We made this with frozen broccoli, which worked well. The cheesy sauce (with no cheese) was delicious.
Laura’s The First Mess features on our recipe resource. She’s never let us down yet…
The Arthritis Foundation was added to our resource last week.

Matthew Walker aka The Sleep Diplomat is seen by many as a big of a guru for all things ‘sleep.’
His best selling book is oft quoted on podcasts we listen to, with good reason.
His research examines the impact of sleep on human health and disease (spoiler: it’s huge…)
His site is now featured on our sleep resource too.
Oh how times have changed:
‘Non-leather materials and adhesives free from animal derivatives’ is now a selling point for these Marks and Spencer espadrilles.
Works for me. They’re super comfy too.
Win/win.
Bruschetta makes it’s debut. It’s a favourite as soon as soon as the organic Spanish tomatoes that are driven up over the French border, are in season.
Pop the tomatoes in boiling water for a few mins to lift off their skins. Halve and remove the seeds. Chop into small pieces. Pop in a bowl with olive oil, salt and pepper and garnish with fresh basil.
It’s the simple things…
(Adding garlic, or a bit of soy sauce, or lemon, is delicious too).
