Was how long this 55 year old man took to complete The Hope-1000: A bike-packing race that began in Romanshorn on Lake Constance and ended at this statue of Freddie Mercury in Montreux on Lake Geneva.  1,000 kilometres across Switzerland and nearly 100,000ft of climbing.  It follows mostly single-track through meadows, lakes, abbeys with, of course, stunning views.

And he did it last week – fuelled by plants.

Peter’s wife has been whole-food plant based for several years now and whilst enjoying her food, he continued to eat dairy, fish and occasional meat dishes, plus lots of hyper-processed snacks (as many athletes do).  It was a couple of autobiographies that influenced his change: Thrive by Brendan Brazier and Eat and Run by Scott Jurek.  Pete still enjoys live sheep or goats yoghurts, but has now embraced plant power.  He came 9th in the race and quickly recovered from swollen feet and calves, and tiredness.

Freddie and his new friend are busy photo-bombing Peter James as he smiles through the pain.

I often get asked which sunscreen I recommend.  I’ve made this for the past two summers, no problems and no ‘nasties’ unlike so many commercial brands. More from Dr Josh Axe here.

Green juice, apple, broccoli, orange, green pepper, kiwi

When Linda Sinclair’s first husband was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in April 2016 and they were told it was inoperable and incurable; they chose to use alternatives alongside conventional treatment. They got close to clearing his body of cancer. His primary tumour was no longer detectable and all his pancreatic mets were hugely reduced when he passed away from pneumonia in August 2017.

Since that time Linda has researched alternatives and the metabolic approach knowing full well that much can be done to improve quality of life and overall outcomes for cancer patients.

In May 2020, Linda started a Facebook group called Always Hope Cancer Healing Protocols of which we’ve been a member for several years.  Due to the limitations and restrictions with Facebook in terms of layout and content rules, Linda has now set up a subscription website to house the information in a more user friendly way. The subscription fee is £18 for 6 months and will be used to pay for the annual maintenance and academic research books, with any remaining funds allowing Linda to stay home full time continuing to help others navigate this journey.

All the content details are listed on the homepage to consider before you subscribe, so take a look and decide if it’s right for you. More cancer types and articles will be added in the near future, as this is an ongoing project.  Thank you Linda, it’s an excellent resource.

A new survey shows that more than 1 in 4 suffer from chronic pain in the UK.  ‘There may be many complex reasons why the nervous system has been put on “red alert”.  If people are dealing with trauma, stress or grief, that can contribute to chronic pain. says Dr Barker, who has a clinic in Ainsdale, Merseyside, UK.  Here’s a link to the article and the half-hour documentary which is available on I-player (UK only).

The Pain Paradox was released this month too.  It is now an international bestseller – could your chronic pain be there to teach you something???

99p on Amazon UK Kindle until 30 June.  I got it and picked up an absolute bargain.  I thoroughly recommend it as a gift for a lady diagnosed with breast cancer (as well as those that are not).  It’s a novel, but there was so much about my own experience that resonated:  Cancer will shock you to your very core.  It has many lessons to teach you, including valuing quality friendships.  Your ‘tribe’ will never be more important.  Some that I thought were in my tribe were absolutely not.  Whilst others joined, which was beautiful.  It was a special time in my life, as it was for the author’s main character.  ‘Enjoy’ is a strange word to use for a book about a lady’s cancer story, but it is an encouraging read.

Prince Charles looking at health books
It seems royalty are interested in some of the books featured on our site too…

There may be an element of truth here for many.  We’re too sedentary, don’t exercise enough (walks, swims and movement all count) and relying on, rather than simply enjoying caffeine never goes well…

I’ve read Dr Rangan Chatterjee‘s latest this month (another 99p steal on Amazon Kindle UK’s daily deal – I’ve been on long haul flights is my excuse and I’m sticking to it.)

We share the bargains when we spot them, follow us on InstagramTwitter and Facebook for the posts).  It’s called Happy Mind, Happy Life: 10 Simple ways to feel great every day.  Fab, easy read.

Feels like forever ago…. A spot of ‘grounding with a view’ in South America earlier this month.  It’s been a busy one.  The past two years has taught me to ‘seize the day’ – Carpe Diem, Horace knew what he was talking about over 2000 years ago.

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
