Oishi!

Okinawa, an island between Japan and Taiwan, is known by the locals as The Land of the Immortals. It’s a place where they sport 80 year old black belts and ‘eat more tofu than anyone else in the world’ Mr Jamie Oliver aka The Naked Chef tells us. Here he is extolling the virtues of seaweed and tofu. Oishi = delicious in Japanese. Who would’ve thought?

PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) is a common hormonal condition affecting women’s ovaries says John Hopkins Medicine. Here’s an article from The Guardian Newspaper in the UK about the dangerous level of misinformation around the issue. Thoughts from many medical professionals on our Women’s Health resource. Including a great book by Dr Nitu Bajekal called Living PCOS Free.

Laura Peace smiling in a green top and lying in a hospital bed

Another article we were sent this week is from Laura Pearce. Laura was given less than 6 weeks to live when she was 50 years old. She had had breast cancer, gotten the all-clear and cancer had returned to her body, stage 4 cancer. In fact 85% of her liver was cancerous. We’ll let you read her wonderful healing story as featured in Newsweek last month and added to our Cancer healing stories resource last week. Go dear Laura!

Ed Sheeran and Cherry wearing life jackets

Carrying on the uplifting theme with Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry. ‘I like trees’ says Ed. It’s that simple. If you value the earth, look after it. In a recent interview he was asked if he had a private jet. No, was the reply. ‘You could afford a private jet’ stated the interviewer. ‘Yea, but it’s not really about that’ said Ed. And it’s not. He also shared that his wife works in sustainability. Explains a lot!

This beauty is super sustainable: It was in our garden last year, kept cool and dry over the winter and is now showing off again in the sunshine. Many more summers to come we hope.

May this beauty have many more too. The full article is linked here. HRH Catherine Princess of Wales speaks candidly to the BBC about her post cancer experience. Wonderful that she validates how so many feel post treatment. That ‘new normal’ can be very difficult to achieve, let alone sustain. She shines a much needed light on the after-treatment needs of cancer patients.

All part of her healing. That connection with nature…

Asked if she would like to wear gloves whilst planting a rose bush the princess replied, ‘no, I want to feel the earth’.

A charity that provide help and hope post treatment are the UK’s Integrative Cancer Charity, Yes to Life. In 2024 they had: Over 20,000 people receiving direct support via counselling, the helpline, peer groups and well-being sessions. 50,000 visitors using their online Life Directory to find trusted integrative practitioners and support. Their helpline handled around 3,000 calls offering expert guidance and hope. They reached over 1,000 healthcare professionals and trainees through conferences and e-learning.

Yes to Life are featured on our Cancer resource, along with many other sources of hope and healing.

More hope in this uplifting memoir that was added to our Cancer Book resource last week. Denise started this resource to help others find trusted health information after she healed from cancer in 2018. Johann started UK Health Radio with the same goal in mind. Read his uplifting story here. The article is featured on My Green Pod, which has been added to our Sustainability website resource.

We think everyone featured in the uplifting stories above would all concur:

Thank you Mark Hathaway for permission to share.

They’d all agree with this too. More from Dr Josh Axe on our Healthy Body resource.

A healthy body is a wonderful thing, but true health comes when our minds are healthy too. Here’s the link for a free event on July 18th and 19th – 24 hours of tapping and training. It is organised to support the Peaceful Heart Network and if you enjoyed Irena’s tapping article on our last blog you may well want to sign up for this event.

As Dr Hyman is saying: We need to be proactive where our health is concerned, not waiting for a problem to surface. Good nutrition is a huge part of that. Having nutrition as part of our doctor’s training has to be a good thing. Agree?

We really can’t afford not to.

Come on.

Let’s do this.

Let us introduce you to the most delicious date ‘nice-cream’: 3 frozen bananas blended with a handful of dates and apricots. And that is it. No added sugar needed, no other ingredients. Just healthy, nutritious goodness to keep you cool this summer.
