‘I’m A Black Belt Multi-Tasker’

12 September 2023|Health, Nutrition, Recipes, Sustainability

A feisty one at that!

With a mother and husband that also lived to 100 years old we’re kinda interested in what she has to say…  Her 2.9M Instagram followers are too:

  • No rich foods/large portions
  • No processed meats
  • No supplements (she gets her nutrients from her food)
  • No exercise, but she moves ALL the time

She LOVES to work and turmeric is her friend.  A belated 102nd birthday you legend!

‘A stranger is a friend I haven’t met yet’ Marge, 104 years young.  Marge realises that connections are key to longevity.

This TED Talk is standing the test of time; it’s 10 years old, but still spot on.

We’ve been recommending Dan’s new Netflix series ‘Live to 100’ to all and sundry, here’s a friend’s comment:

‘I was surprised as I didn’t think it would interest me but thought it fascinating.  Certainly makes you think xx’

It does.  The trailer is here.

Plant-based food is a huge factor in the life of those centenarians and this oven-baked aubergine from a friend’s garden ticks the ‘add years to your life and life to your years’ box.

Washed, halved, roasted with olive oil, sea salt and black pepper it was delicious.  1000’s of healthy recipes can be found on our site.

Ann F Fonfa, Judy Fitzgerald, JaneMcLlland

So I did.  On the shoulders of giants last Wednesday evening:  Ann Fonfa, founder of The Annie Appleseed Project, Judy Fitzgerald, founder of Sisters4Prevention and Jane McLelland, author of How to Starve Cancer.  Inspiring and encouraging to learn from these cancer thrivers, all using their experiences to share what they’ve learned to help others.

Visited this fabulous centre too; ‘The only dedicated breast cancer support centre in the UK’.  Impressive.

Future Dreams House, London

The Sunday Times article descripton

‘The town that diabetes built.’

‘This year the Danish GDP is predicted to be 318bn, Novo Nordisk (the company that manufactures Ozempic) 343bn.’ ‘The company’s valuation made it the largest company in Europe, overtaking the luxury goods giant LVMH.’

‘The irony of it all is that, in Copenhagen, nobody is fat — everyone cycles, the food is fresh and healthy. This is a business built on exports, mainly to the US.’

‘Last year, two thirds of Denmark’s growth came from pharmaceuticals alone’. ‘Novo Nordisk’s workforce in there: it employs 22,000 people in Denmark, 55,000 worldwide. Last week it hired another 700’.

On other matters: ‘The European Medicines Agency is investigating a possible link between semaglutide drugs and patients experiencing suicidal thoughts.’  That’ll dint the share price…

Find The Times article here.

While in Old London Town I did a bit of exploring.  This is a huge project on The Thames.  Wood Wharf is sharing it’s sustainable credentials.  Good to see.

Mother's Milk sachets

Is this weird?  Or is it us?

Another ‘while in Old London Town’ moment as I visited The Wellcome Foundation who currently have a temporary exhibition entitled ‘Milk.’

Breast Milk sachets…

Excellent exhibition, free to view, all about the history of how milk became such an integral part of our lives.

Nivea Men deodorant

A shocker: Zero out of 100 for this product, which is so widely advertised and purchased.

The zero comes from:

BHT – Butylated hydroxytoluene, which has demonstrated endocrine disruptive effects, particularly on thyroid function.  It may also have effects on the sex hormones and may affect fertility and development.

Cyclomethicone – Over the long term, this silicone has exhibited endocrine disruptive properties.  It also contains cyclotertrasiloxane, a silicon that is toxic for reproduction.  Silicones are also of high concern for the environment.

Aluminium chlorohydrate – Chronic exposure to aluminum salts may have toxic effects.

Yuka is a free independent app, which we often use.  Scary stuff.  Of interest, it recommended Narta’s Magnesium Protect as an alternative, with a score of 90/100.

Novak Djokovic filming for Food Matters

We shared a link to a free screening of Food Matter’s Transcendence series last week.  Novak Djokovic features, sharing how he changed to a plant based diet.

It worked!

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
