And most nights – and days. No relation to the Phil Collin’s hit, but according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) it is the single largest environmental threat to human health, and in the UK it is believed to contribute to thousands of premature deaths every year. So what exactly is ‘it’? It’s a type of pollution known as PM2.5, airborne particles with a diameter less than 2.5 micro-metres (about a twentieth of the breadth of a human hair.)
The link between air pollution and dementia risk is a growing area of research. Studies have also suggested a possible detrimental effect on cognition. Students sitting exams have been found to perform worse when PM2.5 levels are higher. Scary stuff – let’s hope The Environmental Bill is executed and respected later in 2022.
This week we became the latest ‘affiliated organisation’ on the Plant Based Health Professionals UK site. An honour to stand beside respected, like-minded folks.
Here’s an excerpt from the founder’s first book, which came out a couple of week’s ago:
Should we be Eating Eggs? Or can we look to plant-based protein to fulfill our body’s needs?
I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve been questioned about my protein intake: ‘But I NEED meat/dairy/fish for protein/calcium/fibre/omegas’. No, you don’t actually. See below:

Parked up, free of charge, next to the Med. What a winning way to start the day!
New research came out this week published on PLOS (A nonprofit, Open Access publisher empowering researchers to accelerate progress in science and medicine by leading a transformation in research communication.)
‘Our study contributes to a continually evolving body of evidence that suggests a patient’s history of vitamin D deficiency is a predictive risk factor associated with poorer COVID-19 clinical disease course and mortality.’
Via sunshine or supplements – take it, it matters.
It got even better too. Coastal path with a lone ‘droner’ for company. The perfect way to welcome in a new month.
Environmentalists have said that trees connect, they ‘talk’. These ones are in an ancient woodland and they seem to be getting on rather well. Beautiful Mother Nature.
It was in his manifesto and he’s only gone and done it: Eric Adams changed his diet, reversed his diabetes and committed to improve the health of the school children of New York City, where he was recently elected mayor.
The gift that began it all…
December 2017 and I was in the throes of chemotherapy for Stage 3 breast cancer. It wasn’t pretty: No hair, 44kg and in a dark place.
My friend Annie comes over, with a curry, from this book. It was delicious.
In true ‘Annie style’, she not only ordered me a copy of the book to be delivered to my door, but another one of Ella‘s too.
I’ve never looked back.
It’s 99p/99c on Kindle UK/Fr this month. An absolute steal.
Not one of Ella’s, but this is the most consistent, delicious humous I’ve made so far:
- 1 x 400g tin of chickpeas
- 1 x clove garlic – crushed
- 1 x tbsp tahini
- 2 x tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp x extra virgin olive oil
- salt & pepper
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- pinch smoked paprika
I drain the chickpeas and pop them and all the other ingredients into my NutriBullet blender. Scoop into a serving bowl, drizzle with a little olive oil and a couple of shakes of paprika and that is it.
