Green Friday

Which? are a well respected not-for-profit consumer organisation. If they ‘smell a rat’ then there probably is one. Another well respected organisation came out as worst offender too. In short; don’t believe the hype. Here‘s the article.

Joshua Becker’s Becoming Minimalist work is featured on our site. He shared this thoughts on social media today – getting a backlash as a result. ‘Flights to see my daughter’ would make me content, ‘a new hoover’ would make me content, and on it went. I guess it’s more about buying things you really want/need. Thought through, planned purchases, rather than ‘it’s a bargain’ knee-jerk ones? Maybe it’s not such a bargain either – see above!

Speaking of contentment… ‘Art is good for our health.’

An interesting thought from the late Dr Wayne Dyer.

An example: I’ve never really ‘gotten’ the artwork of the late Pierre Soulage, a revered French artist. After visiting an exhibition of his work at the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris a few days ago I did just that. Looked at his work differently. In 1961 he suggested that his work is about rhythm, the beating of forms, the cutting of space. And so my perception of his work changed. Try it sometime.

Talking of challenging perceptions… This comparison from Johns Hopkins Medical Centre confirms it too. 1/2 cup of beans will give you more protein that 30g of fresh meat or fish.

Lunch outside in Europe in November? There’s a perception we’re happy to challenge. This mashed sweet potato salad was made with peppers, leaves and bread from our village.

This may challenge your perception of a well-known tennis player. It did ours. Integrity shines as a key value in this interview from Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, which has featured on our Healthy Mind resource since day one.

Singer Jack Savoretti lives by this. Integrity.

Oxford Languages describes integrity as: ‘The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.’ This was not an easy article to write, but I hold these values highly, so here we go:

Me during radiotherapy – there are worse pics in the article too…

The article is a guest one for Dr Amanda King, whose book was released last week. We’ve added it to our extensive cancer resource for you.

Thanks to Amanda’s huge Substack platform we’ve been picking up subscribers there. We’re at 129 as I type, you can join here as a free, or paid subscriber (to support our work).

Scary stats regarding the DOUBLING of new cancer cases in France between 1990 and 2023. It is now the most common cause of death there. It links a study from the Sorbonne stating that regularly consuming organic food resulted in a 25% decrease in risk. A link between pesticides and various cancers was drawn. Mainland France now has the 9th highest percentage of cancer cases in the world. It is 4th highest for breast cancer and 6th highest for prostate cancer. Two of its territories Guadeloupe and Martinique possess the highest percentage levels of prostate cancer in the world.

That’s a hard read above. Meantime here are some beautiful words for the Northern Hemisphere from Donna Ashworth.

Our ‘Wintering’ breakfast today: organic oats, soy milk, banana, kaki fruit and pumpkin seeds. Oh, and the obligatory green juuiicccee.

Followed by our ‘Wintering’ lunch. Butternut squash soup from the cheerful Jamie Oliver. Sage from the garden crisped in olive oil.

Finally, a little ‘ask’. It’s not too early now! We’re trying to get a £1000 donation to our charity! It takes 30 seconds to nominate us, costs nothing and would cover Denise’s costs as she heads to speak at the Appleseed Conference (Cancer Wellness Revolution) in the States in February 2026.

Click here, type Double-zero, choose exempt, select International at the bottom on the location choice. That’s it. Thank you.

We’ll end the blog with a THANKS. That’s the code to type in for 15% off the Appleseed conference price. You’re welcome. Happy Thanksgiving!

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
