Mariachi Queen!

Mariachi Queen!

22 June 2022|Health, Nutrition

My first trip to South America – excuse the photo dump this week – a pic says a thousand words and all that…

A traditional mariachi band were booked to celebrate 3 family birthdays while I was there – they were fab!

Here’s the birthday ‘girl’ – 86 and looking amazing.  She has so much to share about natural healing and remedies.  She attributes many of the health issues in her country (Bolivia) to soda and processed food: ‘it didn’t used to be like this’.

So much choice and so cheap.  There are markets like this everywhere.  I was in Bolivia, which has fertile soils and an excellent climate for produce.

Organic grapefruits, straight off the tree…

Juice pressed directly from the sugar cane in Brazil.  Delicious.

Cherimoya – hand-picked and enjoyed immediately. It’s full of vitamins, minerals and fibre and contains antioxidants, carotenoids, flavonoids and vitamin C.  And… it’s delicious.

Lots of time spent outdoors in nature.  This waterfall is called The Mermaid’s Veil, clear, fresh water, direct from the source.

Piranha head soup. Yes, I did.  I’m still alive…  Will NOT be repeating the experience.

My son-in-law showing how it’s done: This is yuca.  It’s a staple food in Bolivia.
Compared to potatoes it’s higher in calories, protein and carbohydrates.  Plantain was my fave though, it’s a kind of starchy banana, which is full of vitamin C.

The 'Flower of the Incas' Bolivia's national flower. lt embodies the colours of the country perfectly.
