‘People who discover a new course or new way through, or into, unexplored or less well understood areas of human endeavour.’ That’s how the Alliance for Natural Health describes what they do and have been doing for the past two decades. Rob Verkerk is the founder of the Alliance and Denise got to watch him deliver this message at the Yes to Life integrative cancer charity conference in London last month. The conference was a powerful call to action. We’ve since ‘actioned’ adding Rob’s site to our Sustainability resource. Oh, and a very Happy Birthday Mr V. The Beatles would have been impressed (yep, he’s 64!)
Pathfinder extra-ordinaire here: Dr Thomas Seyfried is a professor of biology who has been a giant in the world of complimentary and alternative cancer care for the past 30 years. Delighted to see him feature on a top watched podcast this week. Delighted to feature his work on our Cancer Resource since day one too.
One women’s health doctor who does not feature on our resource is Dr Louise Newson. We assess our featured medical professionals very carefully, realising that inclusion on our site infers endorsement of their work. Dr Newson is described in this BBC article as a ‘TV menopause doctor’. Her British Menopause Society accreditation has been removed, with accusations of overtly high doses of HRT being prescribed at her clinics. With many celebrity endorsements of this high profile doctor this case will run. Our Women’s Health resource features many health professionals’ advice regarding hormone replacement therapy and a myriad of natural alternatives.
‘Managing Horror’ is not a reference to the upcoming Halloween madness that will shortly ensue, but a 14 minute podcast on the ‘whys and hows’ of managing the levels of violence we are now exposed to via our screens. Be it police brutality or harrowing images of war it seems to be endless. Psychologist Kimberley Wilson asks ‘To what extent is it our responsibility to bear witness to these events versus the need to protect our own wellbeing?’ Fascinating new subject – and very relevant. Throw in the high number of highly sensitive people and empaths on planet earth and you’ve got a whole other level of distress.
Kimberley joined our site this month. You can find her Stronger Minds podcast featured on our Healthy Mind resource. Elaine Aaron’s work on Highly Sensitive people can be found there too.
‘How to make your food more nutritious’ was the headline of an article from The Times last week. 23 tweaks to improve common foods’ nutritional values. According to food technologists at the Uni of Murcia and the Uni of Complutense in Spain we should steam or cook celery to maximise it’s nutrients. Some great tips in the article, but we’re not endorsing the use of microwaves however – see below.
Corinne Segura creates safer living spaces. She has mould and chemical sensitivities and has created a website sharing much of her and her team of experts’ research into: Air purifiers, heating equipment, ERV air exchangers, cleaning mould from cars, Microban, nylon, toaster ovens, air fryers, ceramic cookware, HOCL, paint thinners and strippers, RV antifreeze, non-toxic toaster ovens, glow-in-the-dark paint, and vinyl plank, mitigating off-gassing, insulating vans and cargo trailers, depression and uranium glass, ozone, pipes, onions neutralizing VOCs (they can apparently!), food grade paint and coatings, safe paints for animal enclosures, and non-toxic cat litter. What a minefield… You can now find her work on our Sustainability resource. Thank you Catherine for the recommendation.
The current copy of well-respected medical journal The Lancet leads with a damning editorial comment of the treatment of endometriosis. We’ve a stack of solid advice about this all-too-common issue on our Women’s Health resource.
Dr Lara Briden states this as her raison d’être: ‘My mission is to help women achieve healthy natural menstrual cycles without the use of hormonal birth control.’ This is one of her two published books. It’s excellent advice and a bargain on Amazon Kindle UK this month too. Link here.
