Sale Season is upon us. Guilty. You too?
That 50 and even 70% off is so tempting, although, as The Minimalists say ‘It’s 100% off if you leave it on the shelf.’
Good time to watch this free film on Minimalism and why it matters soooo much:
We’ve ‘added’ the film (yes, the irony of adding a film about letting stuff go) to our Sustainability resource, along with The Minimalist’s podcast and one of their books.
We’re currently seeing what happens to how we feel with less carbs in our diet. Made this great rice ‘dupe’ during the week. Really good cauliflower rice from Love and Lemons, who you can find on our recipe resource
‘Less seed oils in our diets’ is the call from one band of health professionals. Other health professionals are very clear that they cause no harm to our bodies. Here’s Professor Sarah Berry, chief scientist at Zoe with her take on them:
She is being interviewed by Steven Bartlett, who is an investor in Zoe.
Ella Mills from Deliciously Ella also discusses them with nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert on her podcast this week.
Ella’s latest book is on offer until the end of the month. We use our copy often, but have to say that we replace any seeds oils with extra virgin olive oil, or coconut oil.

Less screen-time, more sunshine!
Let’s be positive here: Getting outside is really important for our health, particularly sunrise and sunset. Our circadian rhythms love us for it.

Less short car trips, more exercise.
Posting parcels on foot got beautiful this earlier this week at our local café.
Less pesticide residue on our conventionally grown (ie non organic) fruit and vegetables. It’s not that hard to do: Simply soak the produce in baking soda (cheap to buy, easy to find) for 15 mins and as this peer-reviewed research article shows; ‘In practical application, washing apples with NaHCO3 (baking soda) solution can reduce pesticides mostly from the surface. Peeling is more effective to remove the penetrated pesticides; however, bio-active compounds in the peels will become lost too.’
Makes sense if you can’t/choose not to buy organic.
Far less media coverage is given to Elon’s brother Kimbal, chairman of the American non-profit Big Green. Their aim: ‘We’re on a mission to get everyone in America growing food!’
It’s a great project, perhaps more attention should be given to what they’ve been doing: ‘For twelve years, Big Green has helped people grow their own food with school and home-based programs. Our work across the country brings hundreds of thousands of gardens to life in schools, homes, and communities each year.’
More of that please.

Will we see more of this? America is currently holding confirmation hearings to approve the head of the Department of Health and Human Services for the next 4 years. Robert F Kennedy has pledged that, if elected, he will be able to demonstrate an improvement in the nation’s health after 2 of those years. We watch and wait.
And sometimes less is actually much less. Here’s the full transcript of an interview that was the basis of an article in The Times newspaper UK on Thursday 23 January. We are not going to link the article, you’ll search it if you wish, but it has upset Davinia and her family. This lady has turned her life around, we choose to celebrate more of that.
Rise above dear lady – they can’t reach you when you’re flying.
After the media interest last September when Time magazine’s article defended UPF’s, the Economist now wades into the debate with their article, clearly stating they are bad for you.
Less confusion and more clarity would be very welcome!
