Confusion Reigns

Dr Cate Shanahan joined our site recently, as did her excellent book Deep Nutrition. Dr Cate’s newest tome is entitled Dark Calories, in which she discusses the science regarding the use of The Hateful 8, as she refers to the most commonly used seed oils: Canola (Rapeseed), Corn, Cottonseed, Soy, Sunflower, Safflower, Grapeseed and Ricebran. Here‘s her take on why they are so toxic for us.

Completely opposing view from more scientists in last week’s episode of this popular podcast. Full transcript here.
Confused? Not surprised…

As Amanda King ND says: ‘Cate Shanahan is a seed oil scientist. Have a look at her work.’ Amanda also weighs in on the Ultra-processed food debate on her blog too…

We received our paper copy of Time at the weekend. Here’s headline version #3 of their ultra processed food article we featured in our last blog.

We featured this emotional read on our recent ‘Do You Pod?’ blog. It’s on promotion with Amazon Kindle this month. A beautiful tale of love -and loss.

Next up: Please don’t ‘shoot the messenger’, the attached article is from a very well known American environmental lawyer and public health advocate. This man is pledging to improve his nation’s health swiftly, dramatically and positively. It’s a shocking read. How did we get here?

Another non-political ‘share’ here from the BBC. At last some common sense in banning junk food before 9pm, from the UK’s new Labour government.

So that’s one post from a Republican candidate in the States and one from the Labour party in the UK – so we’re even. Although neither of them are political as far as we’re concerned here at DZ. Health is a humanitarian bi-partisan/multi-party issue. Always.

Our health is way more important than any political posturing.

‘Conflict of interest’ was the first phrase which sprang to mind when we saw this headline from an article published in the UK’s Mail Online last week.

Shocking – and not unconnected to the dreadful health stats above.

Our little village’s runners are about to be offered this (without the brown sugar, which our taste testers agreed wasn’t necessary with the sweetness of the ripe bananas) at our annual breast cancer awareness event in a couple of weeks.
Full recipe here.
(NO seed oils contained, needless to say.)

Denise’s latest article for Flourish Magazine was published this week. Flourish is a free online magazine for those living with or beyond cancer. It’s an encouraging resource, as are the multiple resources provided by the wonderful people at the Yes to Life charity.

Happily that’s not everyone’s experience…

YES IT DOES ROCK!

Thank you Vivian. We’re here to encourage and support too, pointing you in the direction of trusted resources for health and healing, for us and our planet.

No ads, no affiliate links, no sponsorship, we’ve had lots of bills to pay this month: hosting and conference costs among them. Please help keep this resource free to all by donating here. Thank you.

Does it really matter? Yes. It does. The Environmental Working Group are an established, trusted source of consumer information. Here‘s their take on household and consumer products from the Sustainability section of our site.

Tammy’s healing story was added to our site this week. She has improved her Alzheimer’s condition and shares how. It’s an uplifting story, one of 100’s on our site. Search our Health Conditions section, select the relevant issue and choose the ‘Healing’ option. So encouraging to hear from those that have healed – often against the odds.

Moving to Autumn/Fall here in the northern hemisphere and we fancied a warm salad for lunch. We’re all busy people, so it needs to be quick, but nutritious too (with minimal processing, of course). This one was a pack of tofu, cut into strips/chunks and cooked for 2/3 mins in a hot cast iron (see above!) pan with some tamari (gluten free soy sauce). A pack of mâche/lambs lettuce/cornsalad and wholegrain couscous was the base. Topped with a fresh pomegranate, salt and pepper. A colourful, delicious, 5 minute prep, balanced meal.

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
