A Dickens of a Week

A Tale of Two Cities may have been published almost two hundred years ago, but it was eerily ‘on point’ last week: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” All of that rang true as we gathered at the untimely funeral of a friend.

None of us know how much we have left. Fact. We can choose to make the most of every day however, and here‘s a free 17 page guide to some good old self-care from Irena, one of our contributors here at Double-zero.

Dr LePera is a well-known psychologist whose work features on our Healthy Mind resource. This one’s a steal currently. Change doesn’t just ‘happen’, it needs work, but is so worth the effort.

More healing from British GP Dr Newman. This is her latest book, on ‘Black Friday’ promotion currently. More of The Plant Power Doctor’s wisdom on our Healthy Body and Nutrition resources.

Speaking of Black Friday:

‘There is no ‘away’ in ‘throwing away”…. Watched this on Black Friday. Then added it to our Sustainability Film resource.

Talking of Sustainability: Regenesis is by British journalist, author, and environmental and political activist George Monbiot. His 2022 Ted Talk: Can We Feed Ourselves Without Devouring The Planet?’ is a poignant reminder that ‘You can’t bail out the food system with ‘future food’ as the Governments bailed out the banks with ‘future money”. Time for change.

Dr Will Cole‘s reference to the chemicals in the US version of Froot Loops and the Daily Mail’s in the UK

Speaking of change… Several of the President Elect in the US’s choices for future department heads have been greeted with a mixed response. Perhaps none more so than his choice for the Department of Health and Human Services. Here‘s The BBC’s latest offering.

Seed oils are on Mr Kennedy’s ‘hit list’ too. Here’s the full version of a newly released film on their dangers. Top takeaways: 1. Avoid the central aisles of supermarkets (fresh food is around the edge as it naturally needs to be replenished more often). 2. Get rid of seed oils in your home. (If you’re in any doubt watch the film above or have a look at Dr Cate Shanahan’s website which is featured on our Nutrition resource.) 3. Don’t order fried food (guess what it’s cooked in? Yep, seed oils). We’ll say it again – Time for change.

Front page article of another UK National paper shows one of the reasons why radical change is necessary. (The bottom left hand corner headline is another comment on the potential DHHS appointment in the US).

Dr Dixon is King Charles’s physician. He believes ‘too many people are taking too many pills’ according to an article in The Times UK. Hard to disagree doc. Should we say it again?

‘When you know better, you do better’ said Maya Angelou. We do, so we do. No seed oils in this creamy roasted cauliflower dish from The First Mess. Another winner from them.

1000’s more healthy recipes on our Recipe resource.

Santé = Health in French. That’s what we’re focusing on at an event in the new village café early next year. ‘When you know better, you do better.’ And we do.

We’ll be selling houseplants (to clean your home’s air). Natural beauty products (to nourish your skin). Natural teas (to cleanse your body). All to raise funds for our association (donations are our only income.)

‘When you know better’…. Thank you Vivian for this review of Aerobics in a Wig. Breast cancer continues to ravage the health and well-being of so many and we continue to guide people to solid medical resources and first-hand testimonies to help them. We will continue to ‘do better’.

Yes. December’s about to put it in perspective however…

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
