What a Woman

RESILIENCE

‘I have become the CEO of my own health’ says Kanya King, founder of the MOBO awards, who was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in December. She refuses to accept her prognosis, which is, after all, always a ‘best guess’, based on years of medical training, yes, but… ‘Through resilience, grit and optimism, she hopes to reverse her prognosis.’

“This diagnosis isn’t the end of my story,” King said. “It’s a chance to inspire resilience, raise awareness, use this moment to not only fight my own battle but to amplify the message of early detection and the importance of proactively taking charge of your health. If my story can save just one life, then it’s a story worth telling.” Full article in The Times here.

PERSEVERANCE

Real change comes when people embrace it. This was Stansted Airport in London earlier this week. A queue to refill water bottles. And, as the sign says, there are now more refilling stations at all of their airport’s gates. Sustainability progress.

PROGRESS

More change on its way if this doctor has anything to do with it. Good to see Dr van Tulleken’s best-seller advertised on the London Underground this week too.

You can find Dr Chris’s work featured on our nutrition resource.

Nice…

Even nicer…

CONSISTENCY

‘The key to success is consistency’ Andrew Huberman. More from Dr Chatterjee on our Healthy Body resource.

UNITY

LOVE the ethos of this charity: We Free Women is a Community Interest Company that delivers fully funded retreats and experiences to women who really deserve a break.

This year the poet Donna Ashworth is donating 50% of the proceeds from every item in her shop to them. LOVE Donna’s heart. You can find her work on our Healthy Mind resource.

LONGEVITY

Thank you Lesley for sharing this top tip. The celery stays fresh for SO much longer!

BEAUTY

How magical is a sunrise above the clouds? The wonder of the everyday.

NECESSITY

There’s a lot of expectation of wholesale changes on this man’s shoulders.

SATIETY

These date and banana pancakes from Deliciously Ella’s recipe resource will satisfy. Coconut yoghurt, frozen apricots from last summer’s bounty, fresh blueberries and date syrup.

PROGRESS

Two new cancer books released this month: different approaches, same goal: a whole-body approach in healing from cancer.

Here’s the link to Dr Watt’s offering. Both are now featured on our extensive resource of cancer books.

Book cover of Fasting Cancer. Blue circle with faded edges

A new book from Professor Longo hit the market this month too. We’ve featured his work on fasting on our Healthy Body resource for some time now, this work shows how it relates to cancer. ‘Decades of research on the fasting and nutrition technology−based studies to defeat cancer in the body, making only tumor cells much more vulnerable to therapy while protecting the healthy cells.’

COMPLETENESS

We all have a ‘missing piece’. These blocks will be used as a visual aid this week. The talk: ‘Cancer Treatment: From a Patient Perspective.’ What’s your missing piece?

Denise Stevenson founded the health and wellness charity Double-zero.org in 2021 after healing from stage 3 breast cancer at (5-zero) and realising there was no one source to access the wealth of resources that had guided her back to health without the mastectomy her oncologist said was a certainty. Denise is a church founder and president, author and local councillor. She's English-born and has French nationality after living there with her husband and 3 girls for the past 20 years.
